הרמלין הוא פסל, יליד דרום אפריקה ובוגר בהצטיינות של התכנית לתואר שני מכון פראט ניו-יורק. הפסלים שלו ריאליסטים ומוזרים באותו עת. התערוכה הנוכחית עוסקת בספר כאובייקט של תשוקה ושל ידע ובעתיד שלו לנוכח מהפכת המידע, חוסר הקשב, וקריסת האמת והאמפתיה. הרמלין יוצר גוף עבודות שמבוסס על חומריות מדויקת ומאופקת, אך גם על הומור דק, אירוניה מוסרית, ושאלות על אמת, ייצוג ותודעה. הוא חותר תחת מושגי האותנטיות, ומציע לצופה לשהות במקום של אמביוולנטיות: לא לבחור בין אמת לשקר, אלא להכיר בשבריריות של ההבחנה עצמה.

At the core of Omri Hermelin’s practice lies an ancient question: What is it that we see — and what is it that we think we see? His work unfolds a constant tension between appearance and truth: the object, seemingly innocent, undergoes a quiet transformation — the book reveals itself as a carved wooden block, the bell remains silent, the dove heralds not redemption but ruin, and so on. In each piece, Hermelin seems to confront us with a moment of unsettling recognition — the moment when the familiar collapses into doubt, and what we thought we knew loses its validity.

Hermelin, an Israeli-born artist, creates a body of work grounded in precise and restrained materiality, yet also infused with subtle humor, moral irony, and questions of truth, representation, and consciousness. He undermines notions of authenticity, inviting the viewer to dwell in a space of ambivalence — not to choose between truth and falsehood, but to recognize the fragility of that distinction itself.
